How is the final ABV calculated after dilution?
ABV is calculated using a weighted-average formula. For each ingredient, the calculator multiplies the ingredient's volume in milliliters by its ABV percentage to find the pure alcohol volume contributed by that ingredient. All individual alcohol volumes are summed to get total alcohol in the batch. This total is then divided by the final batch volume (total ingredient volume plus dilution water) and multiplied by 100 to yield the final ABV percentage. Should I add soda water and carbonated mixers to the batch in advance?
No — carbonated ingredients like soda water, ginger beer, tonic, and sparkling wine should always be added immediately before service, never pre-batched. Carbon dioxide dissolves out of solution rapidly, especially when the liquid is agitated or stored in a partially filled container. If you pre-batch a Mojito with soda water, you will find a completely flat batch by service time. The bottle count estimator calculates how many standard 750 mL bottles of each spirit or liqueur you need to purchase for your batch. The formula is: Bottles Needed = ceiling(Scaled Volume in mL ÷ 750), where ceiling means rounding up to the nearest whole bottle — you cannot buy a fraction of a bottle. For example, if a recipe calls for 2 oz of tequila per serving and you are making 20 servings, you need 40 oz total, or approximately 1183 mL. Divided by 750 and rounded up, you need 2 bottles of tequila. The estimator shows bottle counts only for volumetric ingredients — pieces and non-volumetric items are excluded.
